There is a photo posted of a bee (or bee-like insect) everyday on the hints page for the NYT game: Spelling Bee.
I often name the plant, but am no good on the bees.
Does anyone know this scary fellow?
CLOSED: Spelling Bee bee
Without knowing (1) where the photo was taken or (2) the size of the bee, I am hesitant to offer a confident i.d. - One possibility is a leafcutter bee (Megachile xylocopoides) that mimics a carpenter bee - see https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQDjTxDMGc-kIwUkR_RUpvEaRR63vR0Cbxhsw&usqp=CAU
Thank you so much.
I am sorry I don’t know either 1 or 2, although I can infer from the flower size it is big.
Everyone is curious if they sting; do you know if they do?
