A new visitor has been hovering near marigolds, salvias and gooseneck loosestrife for two weeks. Location is Appalachian foothills, north Georgia. Is this a male Diana? If so it seems we are at it's southernmost range. Is this rare or endangered?

It certainly looks like one, but I am a bit puzzled by what appear to be white markings on the forewings - is that an artifact of the lighting?
It seems in constant motion. I'll try to get a closer look. I'd like to see a female as well but it hovers near a Dutchman's pipe where similar swallowtails will be hatching.
