Globe willow question

I transplanted globe willow branch (big) that was soaked in water and formed about 1" roots. I transplanted yesterday, april. when will I see shoots to know it took. I put rooting hormone on the roots and planted in dirt. Thanks
OH.... was told because I added a bit of rooting hormone to the small two roots I killed the tree, is that correct information?
