What family would this belong to? Also what are the little blobs on its legs and side? Are they mites or some other parasite?
Earwig
It appears to be a Ancistogaster sp. in the family Forficulidae. I cannot tell whether the mites are parasitic or phoretic (simply hitching a ride). I may not be able to respond right away to some queries, as we are temporarily (I hope) without internet connection at home. I'm typing this from our local library.
Thank you Flap, appreciate your making the effort from the library. I have learned something. Not all mites are parasitic, some just hitch a ride. Interesting.
