The following creatures (and many more) were crawling along our garden wire fencing. Not sure what they are and in one picture I'm wondering if what is to the left of the one in picture 2 is a discarded skin. I hate to ask... but is the yellow stuff coming from the creature in the first picture frass?

Do you have pine trees on or very near your property? This appears to be a larva of an introduced pine sawfly, Diprion similis - see https://tidcf.nrcan.gc.ca/en/insects/factsheet/6552
Yes, in that corner of the yard there are pine tree and they are quite close to the vegetable garden. Thank you for the information.
