Does anyone know what kind of insect this is? I've had no luck in my searches.
Iridescent bug found
It's a blister beetle (family Meloidae) in the genus Meloe. They sometimes are called 'oil beetles' because of the oily-appearing fluid exuded from their joints when they are molested. This fluid (hemolymph) contains a chemical (cantharidin) that can cause blistering of tender skin.
