Wondering if anyone knows what this cocoon might be. It is December in
Michigan. It is about 3 inches long and in a Japanese Maple.
CLOSED: cocoon
It's a cocoon of a moth in the family Saturniidae (giant silk moths), likely that of a cecropia moth - see https://davethebugguy.files.wordpress.com/2018/11/long-moth-cocoon-hatch_46b3f618ea8e8c2d.jpg?w=549
WOW! Thanks!
