Not in a garden, but saw this pretty critter in my house on Maui. Never saw anything like him, and I’m not sure if he’s native/exclusive to Hawaii :0
He’s next to my 13” iPad screen for size comparison.

This moth belongs to a complex of families collectively called "microlepidopera"; I have little hope of offering a specific identification as Hawai'i has such a large and diverse assemblage of these moths - see https://www.amazon.com/Insects-Hawaii-Microlepidoptera-v-9/dp/0824804872
The specimen shown here appears similar to yours, but I'm virtually certain that it is not the same - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erechthias_simulans
