Any idea what kind of bug this is?
(Midwest, US)
CLOSED: Cute brown bug
A click beetle (family Elateridae); larvae of some species are called wireworms.
With the help of your ID, I looked them up and really enjoyed reading about them. https://uwm.edu/field-station/eyed-elater-click-beetles-family-elateridae/
Thank you so much 🙏
Ever so much fun to play with as a child...
Holding them between your fingers, you really feel where the moniker Click Beetle comes from.
Setting them on their backs on the sidewalk, and watching the vigor with which they "click" and flip themselves up in the air - simply amazing.
That's really cool. I won't be afraid to handle them now. In fact I kind of hope I see another one before winter sets in.
