Can anybody tell me what kind of moth this is and what that bald looking spot is? The moth was about 2 inches long, and the photo was taken in Georgia. Thank you!
CLOSED: Need moth ID
It appears to be a well-worn sphinx moth (family Sphingidae). Much of the scales on its thorax have been rubbed off, giving the bald appearance. See https://www.invasive.org/browse/detail.cfm?imgnum=5585754 for a more intact example.
Thank you!
