CLOSED: Can you identify this caterpillar?

Manorville, NY

Saved this guy from my pool- he's a bit dirty from walking around in this container. I first thought it was a forest tent caterpillar, but the pattern is wrong. Anyone know what he is? I'm in NY.

Identifying this caterpillar will be difficult as it appears to have been soaked/sprayed with something that that has damaged its setae (hairs) such that its 'normal' coloration and pattern cannot be discerned.

Thanks for replying- yes, he has some debris on him & he's wet because I saved him from the pool. It looks like small tufts of white hair on the sides, a bluish head, and an odd pattern on the back- looks like little white faces going down his back. I was wondering if it was some type of dagger moth caterpillar?

That's possible - other possibilities include Notodontidae and Lymantriidae.

Thanks! I'll check them out!
