Some kind of bee?

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

These are at my neighbor’s yard. From 11 to about 3 they fly in huge numbers close to the ground and then disappear til next day. They only appeR during warm months and the hotter the days the more bees. They don’t seem aggressive but they’re sufficiently upsetting to children who play in the area. Can you I D? Thanks.

This is a wasp in the family Sphecidae known as a cicada killer. They are not at all aggressive towards humans; see https://entomology.ca.uky.edu/ef004

Thank you, that’s what it is. The link you provided says the frequent flowers? Which my neighbor doesn’t have but I do. I am a little concerned that they might become a pest in my garden but so far nothing like in her yard, she used bifen granules last summer but they cane back. It sounds that treatment is a long term project and she’ll have to reapply granules 1-2 more years for decent eradication.

Again, Thanks for ur help
