What’s wrong with my spider plant?

Baltimore, MD

I got this spider plant from a local nursery, they have always had excellent quality plants. I order this online and did sidewalk pick up (because covid) and it really didn’t look healthy. I’ve tried everything i can think of. What is wrong? Should I give up on this plant?

Hi needkelp,

I shouldn't really respond, because I know nothing about Spider Plants. But I do know a little something about plant nutrition, and I notice that the old leaves on your plant have died but the younger leaves are at least alive. There are several nutritional elements that a plant will "steal" from lower leaves to use in newer leaves. That causes the lower leaves to die. The solution to that problem is to have a complete set of nutrients available to your plant. Plants need a lot more than the commonly mentioned Nitrogen, Phosphorous, and Potassium (NPK) listed on commercial fertilizer sacks.

I think maybe too much water? I let all of mine dry out and only water with r.o. water. Spiders don't like chlorine.

Agree with schmeeges. It looks too wet and burnt ends indicate xcessive fertilizer salts or chlorine.
