Hi from New Jersey! This bug was flying around my living room! Can anyone tell me if it’s a hornet or some other type of insect?
Bee identification
It is a vespid wasp of some kind (cannot be identified more specifically from this angle).
I might add that it was quite big. I’d say almost 2 inches. Can’t really tell bc it curled up after I hit it. I wish I had taken more pictures.
It might be a European hornet (Vespa crabro) then. They reach a maximum length of about 1.5" - http://www.vespa-crabro.com/hornets.htm
