My 4ft x 4ft bed of garlic chives needed thinning and separation. I found a lot of the root pieces in the underlayment of dirt after I removed the clumps of garlic chives. There is no way I can remove all of the little root pieces. I wanted to loosen and re-use the dirt in the rest of the bed but I an concerned that the small root pieces might generate new garlic chives. I am in zone 8b in Texas so I have no trouble growing chives but good soil is scarce. That's why I would like to reuse the dirt if I can without more chives propagating. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
