Hi, everyone.
I have a satsuma tree, planted last year. Last fall it produced five fruits, all ridiculously large for the size of the tree, which was so small I put up stakes with orange ribbon on them so that nobody would accidentally drive over it (it's on the green space between the sidewalk and the street; there is no curb). This spring it decided not to bloom. Google tells me this might be normal. But I'm wondering about it given another possible issue:
Also in the fall, some of the leaves turned yellow. I fertilized it and the problem resolved, but earlier this year the same problem reared its head. Again, I fertilized (citrus fertilizer; on schedule per the fertilizer bag's instructions), and this spring the tree is much fuller than it was last year, though it's not much taller. I've mulched with organic matter (banana leaves and stem cuttings for the most part, but also other random vegetable offal)(mulch not in photos). The tree is in...I don't know; soil. It's not clay, but it's also not some kind of compost-rich mix, though I did put in potting soil plus compost into the hole when I planted the tree. It's reasonably well-draining. Last summer was incredibly rainy, so it certainly got enough water its first 6 months, at the very least, and this winter has been wet, too.
So I guess my questions are 1)is the yellowing of the leaves normal, and 2)is the lack of fruit likely to be because of something I did (or didn't do), or is it just expected given the age of the tree?
Photos of the tree right after planting last year and from about a month ago for comparison (in good news, it's a little fuller than in that second photo now).
Thanks!
