Well, well, well - Another puzzler! It's either in the family Lygaeidae or Pyrrhocoridae; I cannot see the diagnostic features that separate these families (presence or absence of ocelli (three simple eyes between the large compound eyes) and the number of veins visible on the membranous part of its wings. I have seen images apparently identical to years attributed to both families!

Very interesting! Well I certainly wish I'd gotten more and better shots but it took off instantly so I was lucky I got the one.
