I am wondering if anyone can tell me if all Calibrachoa plants have sterile seeds? I’ve been collecting all summer just like I have with my petunias and have tried to get some to sprout with no luck. Also, I have one type of petunia a yellow variety that has seeds that are yellow, or a tan color. All other varieties are black once the pod dries. Is that normal? Are they sterile maybe?
Calibrachoa and petunia seed question
My understanding is that it depends on the calibrachoa hybrid as many are sterile or if not, they do not produce true offspring. Being sterile may make them more floriferous for they keep flowering wanting to reproduce.
However I know the Kabloom calibrachoa series do produce viable seeds and their seeds are sold.
As far as your yellow petunia, I imagine petunia seed can come in different colors though I do not know for sure if this is true. Also some seeds in general change color from light to dark as they mature.
