torch lily/red hot poker plant

I planted a red hot poker plant three or four yrs ago and the blooms were the red graduating to orange to yellow that first year. Every year since then tho they bloom just yellow. Still very pretty, they're next to purple catmint and pink yarrow. I'm just curious why they switched...something in the soil? I'm in Michigan, zone 5
