As I maneuvered this caterpillar for the photo I touched it with a leaf or something (not my finger!) and a droplet of liquid emerged from one of the spikes. Could be venom?

I cannot say for certain, but I have my doubts because of the volume. Nevertheless, I would advise against trying to pet anything that looks like this...
