Hi everyone!
Well, I'm new this site, and somewhat new to gardening... So my question/problem is, we live in central Minnesota and my husband built a retaining wall garden bed for me last fall in front of our mound system where I put in probably 50 tulips and daffodil bulbs for a start to my bed. But this spring, there hasn't been a single sprout in this new bed, even though the tulips I planted 2 years ago around our house are coming up fine. I can't figure out why.
There's weed fabric down but I cut open chunks where I planted so there's plenty of room for them to come through, and it's a raised bed in full sun so I know drainage and light shouldn't be an issue.
The bulbs were from Costco, not huge size but decent, and I planted them first week of November before the hard frost. Even when I've bought discount bulbs before, they still always came up...
The only thing I can think is, the soil he used to make the bed was from our cow pasture, so I thought it would be great to have the manure already mixed in and fertilizing, but is it possible it "burned" the bulbs? If the manure wasn't rotted enough before I planted?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I have big plans for planting annuals and perennials though out the bed this spring and hope to have much better luck with those! :)
Bad bulbs?
