Hi, I have an orchid and I noticed that the leaves are starting to crack in the middle of the leaf. Seems like there is a rib there where the two halves of the leaves are joined. Is this normal? The orchid is otherwise doing well, a new leaf is sprouting and a few months ago I cut the main stem after all the flowers fell off. The stem where I cut is now sprouting new growth. Thanks for any help.
Orchid .....
It is generally thought that lack of humidity causes the leaves to split up the middle.
Kell,
Thank you very much for the reply. YOU are 100% correct because its VERY dry in the house. We live in upstate New York and heat the house with coal. All the windows and doors shrink during the winter due to the extreme dry conditions. Thank you again.
Maybe you can sit the pot on top a decorative container on rock where the rocks sit in water, not the pot. And mist the leaves a lot. What we do to make our potted friends happy!
I will try misting the leaves. Thanks again and have a great day.
