Hi,
I’m reading differing articles regarding what FLOWERING Perennials are resistant to Black Walck tree jugalone AND can handle the shade canopy under these trees. It has been aggravating experimentation over these past years. I have hosta but want something with color such as Dianthus. Tried phlox but a ‘no-go’ because of the shade canopy. I will be attempting ‘autumn brillance’ fern for color this spring and still need something that can handle shade but give the garden Spring, and especially, Summer color.. HELP!!!!
FLOWERING Perennials that resist Black Walnut trees jugalone
Hi, I sympathize with your problem. I have a HUGE black walnut, actually it's the biggest in Illinois, and it took a long time to figure out what I could grow under and or near it . I have tons of things blooming under the canopy. My phlox flourishes as well as bee balm, filipedula, thalictrum, oriental poppies columbine, pansies and impatients. I also put big pots on pedestals such as bird bath stands to give some height and allow me to grow a wider variety of things.
Good luck
Iris.
