Hey! I live in San Francisco. Just moved into a really old apartment and these guys are popping up all over, especially my bathroom. Been searching all night for what they could be, but with little luck. The only thing I could find that it might possibly be is a "missing sector orb weaver" but I can find very little information on them...
One I caught liked to play dead, like you can see in the 3rd photo. Not sure if that helps identify them at all (Though I hope that means that it's a harmless spider).
Anyone have any idea what it is?
(btw, all caught spiders have been released! I really don't like killing them)

I believe that Zygiella x-notata (missing sector orb weaver) is a good possibility. However, there are some Larinioides sp. that can be quite similar in appearance. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zygiella_x-notata and http://bugeric.blogspot.com/2015/02/missing-sector-orbweaver-zygiella-x.html for more information on the missing sector orb weaver.
Thanks for the response Flapdoodle! Glad to see its something harmless (I think?).
All orb weavers are harmless to humans.
