What will this be?
Quite A Show! Who is?
This is one of the tussock moth caterpillars in the subfamily Lymantriinae of the family Erebidae. Until fairly recently, the family Erebidae was a subfamily (Erebinae) under Noctuidae and the subfamily Lymantriinae had full family status (Lymantriidae) under the superfamily Noctuoidea. I strongly suspect that further revisions/shuffling of subfamilies and tribes will be forthcoming within this huge assemblage of species. Isn't taxonomy/systematics fun?
Thank you for that. Yes fun indeed. I wonder if the moth will put on as good a show.
Unfortunately, most tussock moths are somewhat unspectacular in appearance - see https://www.discoverlife.org/20/q?search=Lymantriidae for some examples.
