More info about BadTrans.B Virus

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

This would explain why some of the virus-infected e-mails appear not to have any attachments. If you use Outlook or OE, you may still be infected even if you didn't appear to get an attachment. Better safe than sorry.

Badtrans just won't go away. In fact, the insidious Internet worm that was first reported in November hasn't even shown signs of slowing down.

The good news is that antivirus sites are providing some free tools to diagnose and combat this password-stealing worm that leaves infected computers vulnerable to hacking by tracking what a user types -- including passwords and credit card numbers

Badtrans comes as an attachment that exploits a vulnerability in Internet Explorer that affects Outook and Outlook Express. You don't have to double-click the attachment for it to execute on your system. In fact, the message may show up looking like it doesn't even have an attachment

Once it executes, Badtrans has a keylogger that can track everything you type into your computer -- specifically your account numbers and passwords. Badtrans then emails that info back to the virus writer.

Help is available if you've been infected or if you want to protect yourself.

Antivirus programs have updated their definitions, so you should download the latest tables. And many sites have free scans for Badtrans and even removal tools.

The Symantec Antivirus Research Center (SARC) has an "all in one" online scan and removal tool. It's free, and you don't have to be a Symantec customer to use it. It's also a very small download: 121K

It's available at http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.badtrans.b@mm.removal.tool.html
