This was a bad year for fall webworm here in Connecticut. It defoliated several branches on one of my viburnums and I removed a few branches. They were covered with webbing but no caterpillars. A few days later I developed a patchy
rash on both forearms where I had carried the branches. It consisted of several discrete, reddish, pruritic (itchy) papules. At first I wondered if I had run into some poison ivy but it never became weepy. Then I remembered I had seen the exact same rash while working on the Cape from patients exposed to the brown tail moth caterpillar and its webbing. It cleared up with topical steroid and oral anti-histamine after a few days. I thought I should warn other gardeners. Sorry I didn't take a picture of the rash!
