I have never seen any like these before
What kind of caterpillars are these?
It looks like a caterpillar of a nymphalid butterfly in the genus Limenitis, either a viceroy butterfly, Limenitis archippus - see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gxdTZwiMCA or a white admiral butterfly, Limenitis arthemis - https://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/sites/default/files/filefield_paths/viceroy23688m2.jpg
