These little bugs were all over my friends plumb tree this year. On the leaves n plums. They embedded into the plums n shed their shell. The shells are still attached to the leaves and fruit. They look like a mix between a ladybug, potato bug n some kind of beetle. We are in western Washington state. Does anyone know what they are, please?

These are larvae and pupae of a lady bird beetle, likely the Asian multi-colored lady beetle (Harmonia axyridis) - see http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/creatures/beneficial/multicolored_asian_lady_beetle.htm
Thank you very much
