WOW!! You guys are really getting the snow. Here in Houghton lake I was out weeding my garden and mowing the lawn. LOL!!! I think we are really going to get it good this year. We got 3 or 4 more inches today.

I don't think we should complain as our water table is really low and all this snow will hopefully raise the water table in the spring. I'm sure our trees would like that.

Maybe we can take this time to plan to meet in the spring and exchange plants. What do you think???

Snowed in in central Illinois, too. It was kind of nice to get to shovel snow though - I am so desperate for outside work that any activity is nice. It beats sitting around and wishing spring was here. Though I do wish that spring was here! Somehow snow makes winter worthwhile (for a little while anyway).

Yeek, cold, cold, COLD here in South Dakota. Yesterday morning was -18. I bought a cute little coat and booties for my dog so she could stand outside long enough to do her business. This is the kind of cold that freezes your nose hairs. Just a few inches of snow, but it won't go away. Was much warmer today, if you call 30s warm. I see Texas was catching a bit of snow and ice too. I did get a new seed catalogue. I was thinking how I was running low and might have to buy more seed. Grin :)

Just a little chilly here in Rockford. We got about a foot, and it's starting to snow again. At least it's not freezing rain that they're predicting lower down in central IL! I'm just pretending that all the snow is protecting my plants like a big ol' blanket so that they all come back this year and look bigger and better than ever!!! Kathy

Yep, the freezing rain is here. 30's -- sounds like a heat wave to me! I watch the steam come off the water garden and pretend I am in Hot Springs. Guess I'll have to go North to Rockford to warm up. There's supposed to be a new bad weather system going through our area about every other day for the next week. Maybe the weathermen will be as wrong as they are in the summer when they predict rain.

Hi! It isn't snowing here yet, but we have gotten quite a bit over the last two weeks. Has been below zero most of the week and is just warming up. We are waiting for the winds to start up again and we have fog that freezes on the windshields right now. I have been ordering as many catalogs as possible. Stay warm.

Schenevus, NY

i live and garden in upstate NY. elev 2070 feet so the weather is bit different. today though i was able to walk around the garden and look. Its been raining so all snow is gone, the grass is even green. must get the seeds i collected on the trade list but don't know how , where do i find out how to list things and also how to put info under the plant section. first time i have ever jumped into the "chat"room of any site but dirt digging is my passion.

To listen to us Texans whine, check out the link below. They should come read y'all's pitiful stories. How can you stand it? But then again, you don't have to put up with the heat, drought, and grasshoppers. Every paradise has its price I guess. http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/txgard/msg1210212525497.html?7

Lantana, What do you mean we don't have to put up with drought and heat? We made it up to the upper 90's many days this summer, and what's worse, it's not always a dry heat... muggy muggy muggy! (But what I wouldn't give for some of that now!!!) Snowing AGAIN here! We're at almost 2 feet, which for this time of year is a lot! And it's that slippery stuff too...almost couldn't get my little Saturn up the hill to get home! But I THINK that means it may be a white Christmas! LOL Kathy

Lucky you! I've had one, yes that's right, ONE white Christmas in my life.

Kansas City , MO(Zone 6a)

Lantana, You're welcome to visit me this Christmas, or New Year's, or Valentines, or St. Pat's day if you'd like to see any of these white holidays! (OK, it's not always snowy on St. Pat's but about half the time it is!). Just let me know when to expect you... (smile) Kathy

It's been snowing here about every third day. I have run out of room to put the snow when I shovel the drive! But, my flowerbeds are well insulated from our around 0 degree weather. I'm enjoying it for a little while, but will enjoy it more when spring is here.

Wentworth, SD(Zone 4a)

We haven't been getting a lot of snow in eastern SD lately, but what there is is sure blowing around. Wind chill -50's today. It is going to be cold (0's not counting windchill for at least a week). It was 10 degrees the other day and it almost felt warm.
Lantana, we didn't have the grasshoppers this last summer or any other great amount of bugs, but the year before the grasshoppers, mosquitos and ticks were horrible. We haven't been getting quite as hot these last couple of summers, but it can and does at times.
Why do we live here? I don't know some days.
I lived in Texas for a couple of years and it didn't seem like Christmas with people running around in shorts on Christmas eve.
I am getting my junk cleaned out though so I can start gardening indoors for a couple of months. :D
