how to winter strawberries?

Hi everyone..My mother has planted strawberries about week ago, but it wasn't a good idea, because cold days are coming..However, my mother is really stubborn so she did it. How should she take care of them? I don't think they will have fruits this summer, so I need some advices about wintering them. Have you ever did that?
