Hey guys I found this guy in a blanket inside my house, I live in the middle of illinois. The spider was extremely shiny black, but it's stomach had a slightly lighter or duller black pattern on its underside. No other markings though! Any help is greatly appreciated, really worried about my family!
CLOSED: Black widow, right?
This spider belongs to the same family (Theridiidae) as the black widow, but it is in a different genus (Steatoda). They can deliver a very painful (personal experience) but not dangerous bite if handled carelessly (they are nit aggressive towards humans).
