Hello, I planted 3 gayfeather last year. They were strong and beautiful. Spring is here and they have not grown yet? Other plants in my garden are waking up well. But in my new bee garden, the gayfeather, lemon balm/mint, catmint and lavender have not come in.
I am zone 3, today is 27c we have had warm shorts weather for 2 weeks now and it has not dipped to 0 or below for about 3 weeks ( maybe 4?) 3 for sure. My fruit tree has just started blooming.
Gayfeather growth
They may have not made it or just delayed
I would do a little gentle exploring around the crowns to see if there is any sign of life
Thank you. Can you tell me what I am looking for? I'm a newcomer.
I would look for new shoots or growth starting to emerge at the crown of the plant. If there is mulch around the plant, you can scratch that aside to see if anything is growing towards the light. Otherwise you could just wait a few more weeks to see if anything comes back. Good luck
Thanks huge. This worked for me, and using this method I found out they were just delayed, and are doing well. I also discovered that my lavander, lemon balm and a couple other things in that garden sadly did not make it. Took them out and planted cucumber, watermelon and lettuce instead. Looking good!
