Hi there, I am using a Co2 mosquito trap near Vancouver BC, Canada. I have not caught any mosquitos as of yet, however I have a lot of these flies and I am trying to figure out what they are, and whether they are biting flies or not. I am using octenol as an attractant. Thank you in advance!

These might be dark-winged fungus gnats (family Sciaridae). These flies are non-biting nuisance pests, but the larvae of some species can damage very tender vegetation. These larvae may found in the soil of potted plants when overwatering occurs. See http://ipm.ucanr.edu/PMG/PESTNOTES/pn7448.html for more information.
Flapdoodle, I think you've got it! It's the Pacific Northwest, so it's naturally moist everywhere. I'm curious why my mosquito trap is only catching them and not any mosquitos.
I'll let it run a few weeks more.....
Thank you!!
