Hi, I was searching online to find out what could be causing these strings of web (or web like dust) along the corners of porch or sometimes even in the middle of the porch (rare) & I found Dave's garden forums. I am trying to identify what are causing these. The second photo is a close up of one of those spots. I am in Arizona btw. Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Really can't tell much from these images; does not look like frass from any wood-damaging insects. Possibly work of small spiders?
This is the 3rd time I am seeing these over last couple of months. I sweep them away and they come back. Should I treat the area with some spider spray and check if that fixes it?
If they are recurring in exactly the same places, first examine those very carefully (perhaps using a magnifying glass) for signs of any holes (I could not see any in your images). Also, is there a crawl space of any kind above the are where you are finding the webs? If so, and you can gain access to it, check there for any sign of insect activity.
