Is this weigela dead?

Sewickley, PA

If dead, ideas for something to put in this spot? I think that we need something that is green year round.

Break off 1 stem near the base. If alive, stems usually will bend not crack. If you do snap it off, it will be green inside if still alive. Sometimes a plant can be dead above ground but the roots will push up new growth.

I have no ideas for a replacement. Sorry. I hope someone comes by with a great idea for you.
