Hello, I'm a beginner gardener. I've read so much about how great worm casting is for plants, so I got some and added into all of my planters (some indoor and outdoor). There must've been worms with the casting because I found couple of worms in one of the planters. I've read an article that said 8 worms in 6 months can become 1500. My newly planted dwarf Meyer lemon tree is in a half wine barrel and others in smaller containers. My question is: will the worms eat the plant roots? Are my pots going to be flooding with worms? Do I need to get rid of them? If so, how? PLEASE HELP
Red worms in planters
Chuckl, you are worrying about a gold mine of worms? Yes, they multiply more if fed. If not fed they turn to the roots of your plant and trim it bare, tho the plant doesnt seem to mind. Getting rid of them involves poison usually. This is a relative term as poison to a worm can be corn meal. Does your pot drain to open ground? They can escape that way. You will need to research the cornmeal doses, I don't use it.
