Hi:
I live in north central Kansas, zone 5b. I've always heard it's best to buy seeds from a seed company close to your own latitude--and better yet, close to your region, the idea being the seeds will come from plants grown in a similar climate/growing conditions. I like the variety Johnny's Seeds offer, but they're located in Maine, a long way from Kansas. (I assume Johnny's grows all or most of their seed crops in Maine).
Has anyone in the central US had good luck with Johnny's seeds? I'd like to know before I spend a large amount there. I've planted Shumway seeds (from South Carolina) with good results. I've heard that some seed companies get seeds from other sources than where they are located, which confuses the matter further.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
Do Johnny\'s seeds grow well in the Central Midwest?
I'm in the mid-atlantic, had very good luck with the viability of Johnny's Seeds, Baker Creek Seeds, and Strictly Medicinals. Very good germination rates from the seeds of these companies.
Thanks for the reply! The Johnny's seeds I ordered this year did well in my garden.
