When you start tomatoes , and sow them into the garden, when do you mulch with straw? When they are still little babies or let them grow some?
Mulching with straw
Where do you live? In my zone mulching with straw would just rot the tomatoes. Hides the bugs that think its their tomato, too. Of course even after 3-4 weeks of no rains, my humidity stays above 50% and usually closer to 80%.
If you choose to mulch, pull the mulch away from the stem a bit, and mulch when your humidity stays lower.
