I have a Bird Nest Fern in my garden, which is approx. 30 to 35 years old. After all these years, the trunk has collapsed not be able to support the head and keeps on growing laying on the ground and still producing healthy leaves. The trunk is approx. 60cm long. The “Trunk” is black and is relatively soft and made from the former leaves after they have died.
Is it possible to cut the head or top part with some of the trunk and transplant it in back to a vertical position? Would it survive? Would new roots grow from the trunk? How much trunk should I leave under the top? What procedure should I follow? Thank you.
