I noticed this morning a lot of small diggings all over my backyard, they are small one to two inches wide and the hole is not visible, it is covered by dirt.
I want to know what insect am I facing here, is it some kind of wasp? Because I have seen wasps digging in my backyard few years ago.

Difficult to say for sure - nether wasps nor ants are likely to be actively digging at this time of year in your area. Tye gently scraping a mound away to see what is underneath, and take a picture of that.
