I've been planting trees each year in my yard - all so far from pots and varying sizes with success. Curious about the option of bare root trees and wondered if there are any issues with them taking root when planted. Does it take them longer to adjust? Any suggestions or cautions before I order? Any benefits to planting from bare root to potted plants/trees? I understand that some trees do not do well as bare roots but trust that any nursery worth their salt would not offer trees that should be planted from pots/or bags. Thanks in advance for your advice!
Bare root planting
Hello there I have planted a great deal of bare root trees and shrubs over the years and have never experienced problems with them growing as expected once they have been planted. The main reason I use bare root is the pricing and the variety. When you are order online, unless you have a local nursery with very informed staff, you are able to find and select trees that could meet your needs more closely. For instance, I am able to find a dwarf 3 way cherry tree that would start fruiting in 2 years and I can keep it productive at 6 feet. Sometimes you pay a premium for your exact choice, however, that normally applies to something rare or special. Just start searching for edibles on line and you will find a number of listing, Raintree, Burnt Ridge , Stark Bros to name a few
