Hello, I am new here & this is my first thread. I'm in desperate need of some relief. I don't know if this is the right place for this, but I'm at a loss.
About 2 months or so ago, I let my sister in law stay with us & "store" her stuff in our home for a couple of weeks. Around that same time, my husband purchased a set of 3 dressers from the Flea Market & brought them home. Not long after both of those instances, we started noticing VERY "bites" on us. I IMMEDIATELY thought Bed Bugs. I turned my house upside down, looking in the crevices of everything & found NOTHING. I then made my husband put the new dressers outside for 72 hours. We brought the dressers back inside & not long after my sister in law packed up her stuff & moved into her new home. The bites SEEMED to stop, at least that's what we thought. A couple weeks later, they started popping up again. Now, let me describe these "bites". They're not like normal insect bites that you would get from flea's or mosquito's. The only similarity is that they itch, A LOT. These "bites" appear in two different ways. Sometimes, they come up as welts, ranging in size from around the size of a pea to up to an inch wide & long. Other times, they'll be these tiny, tiny, microscopic bumps that you can not see until you start scratching & then they welt up. We have indoor cats, but they do not go outside & do not have fleas. But, I've had an exterminator come in & do a bed bug treatment THREE times & they sprayed for fleas, as well. NOTHING is helping. I have NOT seen any type of bug & that's what is confusing me. Also, these bites ONLY occur when we sit on our Sofa, which we have been avoiding. I'm not rich & can't exactly afford to go buy a new furniture set. I'm at a loss. Does anyone know what could possibly be causing these bites/welts.?
Mystery Bugs & Bites/Rash
Unfortunately, 'mystery bite' scenarios such as you describe
often are very difficult to resolve satisfactorily. With very few exceptions (such as bed bugs), it is nearly impossible to determine the cause bites from the appearance of the bite alone. Then, there are several other potential causes of skin lesions that easily may be mistaken for bites. I can only suggest that you peruse the publication at https://entomology.ca.uky.edu/ent58, and perhaps consider consulting a dermatologist/allergist to see if you can get a medical opinion.
