It was seen inside a house in Melbourne, Australia and was approximately 15mm in length including legs and torso.

What is this spider?
The images are not clear enough for me to be confident of a positive i.d.
One possibility is a black house spider, Badumna insignis - https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/98149, but the posture of your spider reminds me of something in a different family, Theridiidae. A clear view of its eye pattern would be most helpful.
