Saw this on carpet
This is a larva of a carpet beetle (family Dermestidae); likely in the genus Anthrenus. If your carpeting has wool or other animal-derived materials in it, check around the margins for signs of feeding damage by these insects.
Thanks for the identifcation. Is it the the "Varied carpet beetle" or the "Furniture carpet beetle" larva? Looking at this website http://ipm.ucanr.edu/PMG/PESTNOTES/pn7436.html they both look very similar. How can I tell which one is it? Thanks!
Most likely a varied carpet beetle, but it is difficult to be certain without having the specimen in hand under magnification. It really is a moot point, as control methods for either basically are the same - http://ipm.ucanr.edu/PMG/PESTNOTES/pn7436.html
