Fellow DG members, i'd like to ask if anyone has ever run across a falsely advertised plant on an online nursery/grower site?
I am currently dealing with an issue where i have found a variety of avocado i'd like (GEM avocado), but the images on the sales page are that of stock avocado plant images of other varieties like hass. im a little suspicious, should i be? and if anyone actually knows a reputable seller, i'd love to know please! thanks!
Misleading Nursery Stock?
Young, This is out of my territory and my knowledge. I'm hoping more will respond so you can find this out.
If it were me, I would talk to the grower and ask them directly why the image is not of the avocado it is labeled as. If they sound knowledgeable about varieties then you might trust them.
In my experience some sites "steal" some if not all their photos. I have found my own photos taken from PlantFiles on nursery sites a few times. At times I have been asked to use a photo but usually not. eBay is the worst, pick a day any day, and I guarantee I will find several of my photos on there selling some plant. I bet some of the sellers have no clue what they are selling.
Also, if you ask your local nursery for what you want, often they can special order one for you. I have done that a few times myself.
Good luck!
Kell, thanks for responding. Your advice sounds good. I was unaware of the pictures being used to sell their products.
