In California we got similar bugs on our Pomegranate tree which my mom called assasin bugs and said they were true bugs. When I was very small my mom took a course in horticulture and had a huge bug collection she had done as a project. I believed her. Was she right as these guys definitely fly? and What are these two? Should I worry about them? The red and black we had in MASSES last year when we bought the house.
CLOSED: 2 similar bugs
The first one is a boxelder bug (Boisea sp.) - these are very common nuisance pests; I recall them gathering by the thousands on the exterior chimney of our farm house - they appear to do little if any real harm, but they leave a bad odor and a stain if you squish them on anything.
The second one is a western conifer seed bug, Leptoglossus occidentalis - http://ento.psu.edu/extension/factsheets/western-conifer-seedbug
