I have started a number of species geraniums from a foreign seed company. They have been in my garden all Summer. I now wonder what to do with them this Winter. I live in zone 5. Should I dig them up and store them in a cool place over Winter? Not too different from begonias. Or just leave them and hope they will be back next year? They have not blossomed yet, and it is getting late in the season.
species geraniums
I guess I would dig a couple up, oit them and put them in a unheated garage and water once in awhile: maybe once every two weeks depending on the size of the plants and how big the glower pot is. Bigger will hold water longer etc.
I'd also leave some out to see if they will return.
Gardening is an experiment and you learn all of the time.
Edited to add:
Can you contact the source from whence they came?

If, by geraniums, you mean pelargoniums, you will need to bring them indoors over the winter. If you mean perennial hardy geraniums, most of them can stay out, though there are a few tender ones.
