What type of spider is this?

I think it might be a grass spider but would like clarification. Is it a male or female? Are there bites painful?

This is a female grass spider; likely an Agelenopsis sp. Thir bite has been described as painful, but not of serious consequence. See http://ento.psu.edu/extension/factsheets/grass-spiders
