Is this the newly found (in Pennsylvania) White Hickory Tussock Caterpillar. I am a complete newbie when it comes to bugs. I avoid them at all costs, however my 5 year old does not. Is my identification accurate with this creature.. I mean, it does look mean and kinda looks like it as a permanent attitude. I hope the pictures help!! Thanks in advance!
Venomous White hickory tussock caterpillar?
This is a hickory tussock moth caterpillar, but its hazards appear to be greatly exaggerated - see http://www.metroparks.net/blog/myth-busting-hickory-tussock-moth-caterpillar/ for some accurate information. I have handled these with no ill effects...
Great thank you so much for a quick response. I personally hate bugs. I'd rather be covered in raw meat and chased by a pride of lioness than deal with bugs.. But, I'll explain to my son to simply be careful what he pokes and prods at. Once again, thank you so much!
